Cindy Chesmore remembered as advocate for Hopkinton seniors

Chesmore died Monday at MetroWest Medical Center from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), according to her obituary. She was 68. "She lived and breathed the senior center," said Judi Allessio, administrative assistant/office manager at the center. "It was her whole life second to her family and grandchildren."Even in declining health, Chesmore was dedicated to the center and its staff. She remained the director until her death."Cindy was great to work for," Allessio said. "She really cared for her staff and was there to back and support us and help us grow in our positions."Besides the senior center, Chesmore was co-founder of the Polyarts Committee, which puts on a craft and art show on the Town Common each year. She was also involved in St. John the Evangelist Church and Women's Club.She was married to Robert Chesmore for 48 years after meeting at Graham College in Boston. The family owns the Chesmore Funeral Homes in Hopkinton and Holliston."She was extremely proud of the growth and achievements of the center; especially when it went from being in the basement of the Town Hall to the large, beautiful center it is today," her obituary reads. "Cindy was well-liked and took pleasure in spending time with her seniors and meeting new people."Marilyn Palmer, a senior center volunteer and member of the Council on Aging Board of Directors, said Chesmore advocated for the senior center to be built on Mayhew Street after years of operating in the basement of Town Hall."The senior center was her whole life," she said. "She just loved us and everybody loved her."Chesmore was always upbeat and often laughing, Palmer recalls."She knew everybody, especially if someone had been out for a while if they had fallen, in rehab or were sick," Palmer said.
